Islamic Solidarity Fund signs agreement to support outstanding Yemeni students

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), represented by its humanitarian arm � the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF) � signed in Jeddah on Wednesday a cooperation agreement with Yemen’s Benevolent Fund for Outstanding Students.

Under the agreement, signed in the presence of OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed AlOthaimeen, outstanding Yemeni students will be offered scholarships to pursue their studies in a number of universities in member states, according to specific requirements and criteria.

This agreement falls comes within the OIC’s efforts to support the Yemeni people and enhance Islamic solidarity in the member states by providing humanitarian assistance through its various agencies, including the ISF, which plays a pivotal role in regard. The Fund has contributed to providing emergency assistance and implementing humanitarian projects in Yemen through the construction of health centers and schools as well as supporting the efforts of local humanitarian NGOs, at a total cost of about USD3.5 million.

The agreement was signed by ISF Executive Director Ibrahim Abdullah AlKhuzaim and Chairman of the Benevolent Fund for Outstanding Students Dr. Omar Abdullah Bamahsoon. It contains a scholarship program for outstanding Yemeni students in a group of universities in OIC member countries in basic disciplines that match the labor market demand, such as medicine, pharmacy, engineering, science and technology.

After the signing ceremony, the OIC chief affirmed the importance of cooperation between the ISF and Yemen’s Benevolent Fund for Outstanding Students, which would serve students in the member states and seekers of educational and developmental opportunities, with the view to expanding access to education as well as scientific and professional qualifications for them.

AlOthaimeen noted that the OIC General Secretariat was keen to ensure that the ISF scholarships would help achieve quality and professionalism in the various scientific, administrative, cultural and social disciplines provided by the universities of the member states.
