IOK people will never compromise their political rights: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, August 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that the unity among almost all the sections of Kashmir society is a clear and loud message to New Delhi that the people will not allow any compromise on their political rights.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressing a gathering in Srinagar said that the petitions challenging Article 35-A in the Indian Supreme Court were actually a ploy to change the demography of the Muslim majority territory. He said, “Kashmiri people have shown time and again they can’t be forced into submission and there is no question of compromising political interests of Kashmir.”

The Mirwaiz lauded the unity exhibited by traders, transporters, hoteliers, lawyers industrialists, houseboat owners, employees, students and civil society activists and stated that no power can defeat the people of Kashmir.

He warned of a strong and sustained agitation in occupied Kashmir in case the Indian Supreme Court on August 6 announces any decision or ruling on Article 35-A against the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has already announced a two-day protest and strike programme from August 5 and people should follow it in letter and spirit. Kashmiri people have already made it clear they can spill their blood and put everything at stake in case the Supreme Court ruling goes against our interests,” he maintained.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also paid rich tributes to the four youth killed by Indian troops during cordon and search operations in Kupwara and Sopore, saying that New Delhi’s stubbornness and military approach were pushing the Kashmiri youth to the wall.

He termed the recent announcement of police top brass that peaceful protests against Article 35-A petitions would be allowed as deceitful. He said JRL leaders were detained when they were on their way to Islamabad district to participate in a peaceful protest there. He said Hurriyat leader, Umar Aadil Dar, was booked under draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to Kathua jail.

Meanwhile, the President of Jammu and Kashmir Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, addressing a gathering at Gund Hassi Butt in Srinagar said that the people of Kashmir would forcefully resist the Indian attempt of abrogating the Article 35-A.

The Chairperson of Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, Farida Bahenji, in a statement in Srinagar said that people of Jammu and Kashmir would not allow to succeed India’s conspiracies aimed at changing the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir. She extended support to the protest programme of Joint Resistance Leadership against onslaught on Article 35-A.
