Import of petroleum products surges by 91.5 percent

KARACHI: The country’s overall petroleum imports for July-August, mainly for power generation, stood at $2.583 billion on the back of severe power shortages in the country, official data revealed on Monday.

Refined petroleum products import, including fuel and furnace oil surged by a massive 91.5 percent during the two-month period to $1.717 billion against $897.138 million in the corresponding period last year.

On the other hand, the petroleum crude imports during the period under review declined by 8.8 percent to $865.823 million due to under-performance of the local refineries.
