Heavy rains forecast – Disaster Management staff gets high alert signal

Karachi, July 11, 2016 (PPI-OT):In view of forecast of heavy rains in next few days in Karachi, KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed declared state of emergency in the disaster management department and put all concerned departments on high alert. He said the measure has been taken to ensure immediate and effective help to citizens during rains. Following the directive of the Administrator, different teams under the disaster management have been deputed in various areas of the city which include the search and rescue units and city wardens.

In a meeting held under the chairmanship of Raza Abbas Rizvi-the senior director of disaster management department it was informed that city wardens have been deputed at 60 such locations in the city where rain water stayed in past to provide immediate help to citizens and vehicles on roads and low laying areas. The department has also established points along side 22 km long coastal belt to carry out immediate rescue work in case of emergency.

The mobile ambulance unit 1122 has also been deputed on seaside for providing immediate first aid. The urban search and rescue unit(USR) was also made active to deal with any natural calamity or emergency situation during rains. The citizens can contact for help to the disaster management department on 1339, or on 16 fire brigade number, 1122 rescue ambulance number or 1229 Commissioner Karachi Office number from where immediate action would be taken.
