Governor Sindh orders formation of board for Abbasi Shaheed Hospital uplift

Karachi, February 24, 2016 (PPI-OT):Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has ordered a detailed working paper for the constitution of a board comprising medical experts and philanthropists to ensure provision of better healthcare facilities to patients at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH).

He issued this order during his visit of ASH. Principal Secretary to the Governor, Muhammad Hussain Syed, Karachi Commissioner Syed Asif Hyder Shah and KMC Municipal Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui were also present on the occasion. The governor said that with the establishment of a board, the hospital would also be managed smoothly and properly. Every healthcare institution should always prioritise the welfare of patients over every other thing and it should be the same at ASH, he observed.

Ebad also nominated principal secretary, municipal commissioner and KMC senior director medical services for compiling data about existing facilities and required resources for better and improved functioning of ASH in the larger interest of patients. While taking notice of lack of facilities in emergency and lab and non-provision of medicines to admitted patients, the governor directed the authorities to make every effort in this regard. He directed KMC municipal commissioner to take immediate steps to ensure better cleanliness in wards and corridors of the hospital to give it a nice and pleasant look.

The whole hospital should be covered with CCTV cameras, especially in the corridors, Ebad said while ordering utilisation of 100% of the revenue collected in shape of user charges in the hospital most preferably in radiology department. He further directed for taking immediate steps to provide meals to the admitted patients, which the patients are not getting since last 18 months.

Talking to media on the occasion, the governor said the purpose of this visit was to get firsthand knowledge about the facilities, requirements and problems of ASH and to make a viable strategy to resolve the same with short- and long-term measures. All departments concerned and institutions would be approached to make this health facility more effective, he added. He said that hospital authorities have been asked to prepare a detailed report containing and covering all aspects for making ASH a much improved healthcare centre.

Replying a question Ebad said he would visit other health facilities of the city also to apprise himself about their issues. On a question about Karachi operation, he said it is continuing according to the parameters laid down in National Action Plan (NAP).It has achieved tremendous results which are visible to everyone, he said, adding that the people of Pakistan and especially Karachi are thankful to Rangers and other law enforcement agencies for peace and tranquillity in Karachi. Ebad said due to their strenuous efforts economic, cultural, social and recreational activities are continuing in full swing and Karachi is once again becoming the “city of lights”.
