Karachi: Chairman, Sindh Board of Investment SBI, Zubair Motiwala says government initiated setting up of Halal Industrial Park near Karachi to promote manufacture and processing of halal foods and other goods for domestic consumption and export.
National Industrial Parks Company Limited will develop it over vast area near Ghaghar Phatak at National Highway towards Thatta, he told newsmen Friday on sideline of Halal Conferencing & Business Matching-2011 here. Halal Park will exclusively be for halal industries. Entire chain of facilities including Halal Certification would be provided under one roof.
He said certification facility would be manned by SBI. First 200 acres land will be developed and later expanded over a thousand of acres. Government offered incentives mainly tax relief to attract local and foreign investment. “With halal certification our exports would significantly increase,” he said.
Motiwala said there is huge global market of $1.2 trillion of halal food, non-food products. If Pakistan succeeds in getting only 5% share, its exports will increase manifold. Pakistan, having rich agriculture base, has great potential for halal foods and other goods. Saudi Arabia could be main importer of halal goods.
“Pakistan with big economic potential, having 95% Muslims of its total 180 million population should emerge leader in Halal sector,” he said and urged Muslims to make best efforts for promoting halal food and non-food products for spiritual satisfaction as Islam strictly forbidden intake or use of ‘haram’.
