Germany for market access to Pakistan in European Union

Karachi: Pakistan possesses enormous potential human and natural resources, as well as geographical advantage in terms of trade routes, Dr. Tilo Klinner German Consul General said in meeting Friday with members of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry FPCCI. Senator Haji Ghulam Ali, President FPCCI welcomed Dr. Klinner at Federation House.

Dr. Klinner said Germany was inclined to grant market access to Pakistan not only in EU but elsewhere also, as it is best way to help Pakistan in its trouble times. Germany was also looking into possibility to invest in Pakistan’s coal mining and opportunities for collaboration that existed in public transport, waste disposal, water management, education.

Acknowledging vast opportunities in these areas, he lamented there was deficit of implementation of projects utilizing these opportunities. He expressed interest in Foreign Investment Conference being held by FPCCI in December 2011, and assured he will send a representative to explore further opportunities for collaboration between Pakistan & Germany.

President FPCCI, acknowledging Germany’s powerful role within EU, expressed gratitude for Germany’s role in pushing for greater access for Pakistani goods to European markets and GSP Plus status in 2014. He urged Consul General to lobby with his Government for greater investment in quality, low-priced education, training in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
