German Parliamentary delegation meets Women’s Parliamentary Caucus
Islamabad, May 26, 2015 (PPI-OT): A high level parliamentary delegation of women parliamentarians from German Bundestag visited the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) in the Parliament House Islamabad. Headed by Ms. Dagmar G. Wohrl and accompanied by the Vice President of the German Bundestag Ms. Claudia Roth, the delegation comprised across party representation from Germany’s parliamentary political parties. H.E. German Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Cyrill Nunn also accompanied the delegation.
MNA Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Secretary General of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus welcomed the German delegation along with many members of the Caucus from across parties and representing both Houses of the Parliament. A briefing was given by the Secretary General Caucus on the inception, work and achievements of the WPC.
The German delegation admired the existence of an informal across party lines forum of women parliamentarians in Pakistan. They said that such forums should be replicated in other parliaments of the world as well including their own parliament that needs to learn from Pakistan experience and model in this regard.
Members of the WPC proposed to build alliances with women parliamentarians of German Bundestag for greater learning and experience sharing. They also offered the German delegation any assistance and support that they may require in setting up such a forum in the parliament of Germany. Gifts were exchanged by both sides with the promise to build upon this interaction and strengthen it for future partnership.
