Fruit, vegetable exports up by 13.94, 28.47%

ISLAMABAD: Fruits and vegetable export from the country during the first five months of current financial year has registered an increase of 13.94 percent and 28.47 percent respectively.

Fruit export from the country during the period from July-November 2011 witnessed an increase of 13.94 percent as about 163,132 metric tonnes fruits of different varieties worth $88.59 million were exported.

According to the data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), about 152,091 metric tonnes fruit costing $7.77 million was exported during the same period of last year.

Meanwhile, the export of vegetables increased by 28.47 percent as about 95,452 metric tonnes vegetables worth $28.55 million was exported during the period under review.

The vegetable export was recorded at 57,041 metric tonnes costing $22.28 million tons during the same period of last financial year, the data revealed.

The export of leguminous vegetables (pulses) showed 100 percent increase during the period from July-November 2010-11 as about 1,718 metric tonnes of pulses worth $1.89 million exported from the country, it said.
