Fiqh Academy to inform OIC ministries of information about Sharia rulings on freedom of expression

Makkah (IINA) Dr. Saleh bin Zaben al-Marzouki, head of the Islamic Fiqh Academy, an affiliate of the Muslim World League (MWL), revealed that the Academy will communicate with the ministries of information in the Islamic countries to inform them about its decisions containing the rulings of Shariah on the freedom of expression.

Speaking to the International Islamic News Agency (IINA) on the sidelines of the conference on “Ideological Trends between Freedom of Expression and the Rulings of Shariah” organized by the academy in Makkah, al-Marzouki said the Academy will explain, in its next session, the practical and applied legal decisions resulted out of deliberations of more than 200 Muslim scholars from various Islamic countries who attended the conference on freedom of speech and the parameters that must be observed.

Al-Marzouki said the Academy will communicate with the executive bodies in the Islamic countries to inform them of the decisions pertaining to freedom of expression in Islam. He noted that they will communicate with the ministries of information to assume their role in informing their respective agencies of these decisions; with the ministries of justice to implement the rulings that must be applied; and with the ministries of education to implement what is issued by the Academy and direct the concerned parties to abide thereby, and amend their curricula as per Sharia law.

He said freedom is considered a basic principle of Islamic faith and a natural right of the Muslims, but rather, Allah, the Almighty, ordered that human being should be bestowed freedom, which is controlled by the parameters of Sharia and the limits of Qur’an and Sunnah.

Al-Marzouki emphasized that the controls ordered by Allah to restrict the freedom are in the interests of human being as an individual, a society and a nation. He added that without these restrictions, the matter would have become chaotic, pointing out that Islam does not accept chaos and does not accept harming any community.
