Karachi, May 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): Finland is leader in the world in many modern technologies as its economy had grown from an agrarian to a highly industrialized one and Pakistan could take advantage of Finland’s experience to promote industry by developing close relations.

This was stated by Zakaria Usman, President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) while exchanging views with Roving Ambassador of Finland Rauli Suikkanen and Honorary Consul General of Finland in Pakistan Sadia Khan during their visit to FPCCI. Zakaria Usman further said that the bilateral trade relations between Pakistan and Finland are not significant and not as per the existing trade potential.

Finland and Pakistan have a huge scope to expand relations in various sectors of the economy like electric and telecommunication equipment, parts for motor engines, enzymes, chemical wood pulp, newsprint, pressure reducing valves, electric transformers, paper and paperboard, polymers of ethylene, electric motors and generators, textile, articles of cutlery, gloves, mittens, electro medical apparatus etc. He emphasized on people to people contact and frequent exchange of trade delegation and participation in exhibitions reciprocally.

The Roving Ambassador of Finland in Islamabad Rauli Suikkanen recognized the vibrant role of FPCCI in promotion of trade and industry. He stated that Pakistan holds geo-strategic location in the region. Pakistan is a vibrant country having immense trade potential and resources.

He further said that the perception of Pakistan in Europe is contrary to its actual position. He said that he visited different cities of Pakistan and met with different communities without any problem. He appreciated that more than 50% students in Pakistani universities are female which a good sign and contrary to the soft image of Pakistan in international level through media.

Responding to Khurram Sayeed, Vice President FPCCI regarding establishing of Joint Business Council between Finnish national chamber and FPCCI, he said that he will fully support and will ask the Finnish Chamber to contact FPCCI. The meeting was also attended by the Ismail Suttar, Khurram Sayeed, Vice Presidents of FPCCI, Arshad Mehmood, Salman Javed also shared their views.
