Federal Minister for human rights Mr. Kamran Michael chairs meeting with delegation of Kashmiri leaders and human rights organizations regarding Indian atrocities in Kashmir

Islamabad, July 20, 2016 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Kamran Michael along with representatives from Federal Ministry of Human Rights and National Commission for Human Rights met with a delegation of Kashmiri leaders led by Mr. Abdul Hameed Lone from the All Parties Hurriyat Conference. The delegation also included Mr. Shaista Safi, lobbyist for Youth Forum for Kashmir; Dr. Khalif Aftab Sulehri, President International Human Rights Observer; Prof. Farkhunda Aurangzeb, Director Aurat Foundation and Ms. Khalida Ali from SMC Pvt. Ltd. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Nadeem Ashraf, Secretary Ministry of Human Rights; Mr. Ch. Muhammad Shafique, National Commissioner from National Commission for Human Rights; Mr. Muhammad Arshad, Director General HR; Mr. Muhammad Hassan Mangi, Director General IC and other relevant officers from the Ministry of Human Rights.

Federal Minister for Human Rights Mr. Kamran Michael observed that Indian hegemony and violence being perpetrated in Kashmir is beyond pardonable and unacceptable on all counts. Not only is India violating UN resolutions on Kashmir but also all canons of basic human rights which are recognized globally. He decried Indian aggression as deplorable and urged Indian human rights organizations to play their part in helping the oppressed people of Kashmir. The people of Kashmir have every right to raise their voice to demand self-governance through independence. Mr. Kamran Michael pledged that the Human Rights ministry will leave no stone unturned in ensuring basic rights for the people of Kashmir.

The secretary for Ministry of Human Rights highlighted UN resolution 1948 and shared startling statistics on the number of deaths, rapes and tortures being perpetrated in Kashmir. Mr. Ch. Muhammad Shafique observed that the Government of Pakistan needs a stable Kashmir policy which does not change after every 10 years.

The meeting witnessed emotional scenes as Mr. Abdul Hameed Lone could not contain his tears while talking about the atrocities being perpetrated in Kashmir. He said emphatically that my children tell me not to cry if they lay down their lives in the quest for freedom. He said that we are assured that Pakistan will not let us down. However we do not understand why the world ignores the plight of Kashmiris when all other human rights violations are diligently televised. He expressed his exasperation with the media ban being enforced in Indian Occupied Kashmir. Mr. Kamran Michael responded by saying that the Ministry of Human Rights will support the Kashmiri struggle for freedom on every forum.

Prof. Farkhunda Aurangzeb from Aurat Foundation questioned the role of United Nations as to why there observers are not present in Kashmir? She narrated stories of brutal torture perpetrated on elderly men and women. The federal ministry of HR has resolved to initiate official correspondence with Indian as well as International human rights organization to buttress their role against violence and injustice taking place in Kashmir. All officials present in the meeting agreed that the Kashmiri struggle for freedom should be highlighted on social media. Ms. Shaista narrated instances of how even facebook profiles who set a photo of Burhan Wani were deactivated by facebook management. She said that we are still undeterred and it will take more than such a measure to break our resolve. She further explained how Indian media highlights their freedom movement as one that is sponsored by Pakistan. She said categorically that the Kashmiri’s struggle for independence is purely indigenous.

Dr. Khalid described the Indian State and National Commission for Human Rights as an ineffectual body as they are not allowed to cover cases from Kashmir. He emphatically questioned the authenticity of Modi’s Government as such human rights violations don’t befit any modern democracy. He explained that Kashmir’s instrument of accession signed in 1947 was a fake document. He questioned as to why there right to plebiscite is being denied to them.
