Fauji Daharki, Hubco Narowal start production

Karachi: Two private IPPs have been added to the national grid with a total capacity of 390MW.

According to the Alfalah Securities Limited, the two gas based IPP’s includes 176.7 MW Fauji Daharki Power Project commissioned on 22nd April 2011 and 213.8 MW Hubco Narowal Power Project which started its commercial operations on 16th May 2011. According to the Board of Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB), another three IPP’s are being constructed consisting of 209 MW Bhikki Power project, 84MW New Bong Hydropower Power Project and gas based 375MW Uch-II Power Project are expected to be added till 2013.

The additions of new power plants to the grid would provide some relief to the electricity shortfall which recently rose to as high as 6,000MW.
