Energy efficiency can ensure rapid development: Mian Zahid Hussain

Karachi, August 07, 2015 (PPI-OT): Energy efficiency can help Pakistan overcome ongoing energy crisis by saving thousands of megawatt of electricity, millions of litres of fuel and around 40 percent natural gas, a business leader said Friday. China is consuming double electricity than Japan to produce anything therefore the country has been spending 1.6 trillion dollar to improve energy efficiency while it is Not getting importance in Pakistan, said President Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum Mian Zahid Hussain.

Globally building consume around 48 percent of total power output while in Pakistan buildings consume 55 percent of the total electricity output, he said adding that Almost half of the electricity consumed by buildings can be saved for which Pakistan needs to follow conservation laws adopted in EU.

Mian Zahid Hussain said that private and state-run power plants are wasting a lot of natural gas which if saved will reduce wastage, electricity tariff, cost of doing business, unemployment and revolutionised energy landscape of the country. He noted that a lot of industries have installed outdated boilers which can be replaced with latest ones to save energy worth billions.
