Drastic reforms needed in education sector: Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar

Karachi, September 20, 2016 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Education Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that an emergency has been declared in Sindh Education Department. Director Education in each district will not sit in the office and pay regular visits to the schools and colleges in first four days of the week while Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner of the district will pay weekly visit to the college, higher secondary school and high school respectively and submit their reports to the Secretary Education and Minister Education. This he said while talking to media personnel here in Sindh Assembly Building after holding a meeting of Directors Education of all districts.

Secretary Education Dr. Fazullah Pechuhu and Special Secretary Education Zakir Hussain Shah also attended the meeting. The Minister Education expressed his resentment over charging excess fee for admission of first year and directed all principals to return extra fee within a week otherwise a strict action would be taken against them. He added, ‘ Chief Minister Sindh has empowered him to take action against officers upto grade 20. It is high time to take drastic reforms in education sector and he would take all measures to enhance educational standard in Sindh ‘.

The Education Minister said that he was really shocked to see apathetic attitude of the officers and teachers towards education and the pressure was mounting on the government to hand over education sector to private sector because with huge resources and manpower we were unable to come up with the expectations of the masses. He was of the opinion that the prime function of the teachers was to teach only but they had indulged themselves in politics too.

The minister Jam Mehtab told that according to the law the public sector teachers were not supposed to teach in private sector in school hours and if anyone was doing so, was breaching the law and one might lose one’s job as well. He informed that a suggestion to give the test of the teachers was under consideration to check their abilities whether they were capable of teaching or not. He warned the officers that he would not tolerate any kind of misappropriation in funds and he had committed to eradicate corruption in the department. He also asked them to submit their suggestions how to improve education sector in the province.
