Decision of sealing JI-run schools in IOK condemned

Srinagar, March 02, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Private Schools Association has condemned the decision to seal private schools run by Jamaat-e-Islami under Fallah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) as it will affect around one lakh students and push the territory into an educational crisis.

The Chairman of Association, G N Var in a statement issued in Srinagar said FAT is purely concerned with education and it has nothing to do with the politics. “These are recognised private schools teaching syllabus prescribed by the Board of School Education and are like any other private school following all the rules,” he added.

He said there are around 325 schools giving education to one lakh students and any attempt to close them will have huge effect on the education sector. He said the step to ban the schools at this juncture will affect the already crisis-ridden education sector. The President of the Association said most of the students at these schools are from poor families as this was one of the options where they get quality education at minimum fee.

He called upon the authorities to reconsider the decision to ban the FAT-run schools as it is an apolitical organisation aimed at giving quality education to the students. “Treat FAT separate from Jamaat-e-Islami. If you have any doubts check their syllabus or inspect them routinely, but do not close down these schools,” said G N Var. He said the schools also employ more than 10,000 people and all of them would be rendered jobless. “The ban is going to hit us both ways,” he added.
