Cotton cloth exports increase by 12.64% in two months

ISLAMABAD: The exports of cotton cloth from the country during the first two-month of current financial year registered an increase of 12.64 percent as about 317.56 million square meters cotton cloth exported from the country.

During the period from July to August 2011, country earned $395.3 million by exporting the cotton cloth, which was recorded at 312.1 million square meters worth $351.0 million during the same period of last year.

According to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the knitwear export from the country was also increased by 12.53 percent as about 22,902 thousand dozen knitwear worth $424 million exported during the period under review.

The exports of knitwear was recorded at 20,836 thousand dozen cost $377 million during the period from July to August 2011.

Meanwhile, the bedwear exports surged by 5.26 percent as about 44,908 metric tons bedwear of $358 million exported during the period under review as against the export of 56,093 metric tonnes worth $340 million during the corresponding period of last year.

Same time, the exports of towels also increased by 6.60 percent as about 28,769 metric tonnes of towels worth $126 million exported during the first two months of current financial year.

The towels export from the country during the first two months of last financial year was recorded at 29,794 metric tonnes costing $118 million.

During the period under review ready made garments exports also registered upward trend of 21.75 percents during the period from July to August 2011 as about 6,511 thousand dozen ready made garments exported and earned $122 million.

The readymade garments export was recorded at 5,377 thousand worth $269 million during the first two months of last financial year.

During the period under review, the export of raw cotton registered tremendous increase of 841. 52 percent in first two months, as against the export of same period of last year.

However, cotton yarn export witnessed negative growth during the period under review as the export of the said commodity was decreased by 7.64 percent from the country.
