Conference of stakeholders from discipline of medical tourism industry to be held at Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry

Islamabad, February 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): A meeting was recently held at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Head Office as a follow-up to FPCCI’s participation in the 3rd Conference on Health Tourism in Islamic Countries, which was held in Mashhad from December 19-20, 2012.

FPCCI was represented at the Mashhad conference by Mr. Siddique Sheikh, FPCCI Advisor on Social Sector; Mr. Salman Javed, Chairman of ECO CCI Tourism Council (Pakistan Chapter); and renowned surgeons, Dr. Abdul Bari Khan and Dr. Tahir A. Sheikh.

FPCCI had participated in the Mashhad conference with a view to exploring the opportunities for medical tourism in Pakistan. Representatives from 26 countries including Bangladesh, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey, and UK had participated in the meeting.

The FPCCI delegates’ presentations were very well received at the Conference, while they also had the opportunity to hold meetings with members of the medical fraternity from other countries, on the sidelines of the Conference.

Participants were apprised that there were abundant opportunities for developing medical tourism in Pakistan, which could be capitalized through proper marketing, and improving post-operative patient care facilities.

It was discussed that a roundtable conference of the various stakeholders from the discipline of medical tourism industry of Pakistan would soon be held at FPCCI, while efforts would also be made for hosting the ECO CCI Medical Tourism Conference 2013 in Pakistan.
