Community participation and social mobilization can play vital for success solid waste management system: Roshan Ali Shaikh

Karachi, February 03, 2016 (PPI-OT): Managing Director Sindh Solid Waste Management Board Roshan Ali Shaikh emphasized the involvement of general public, communities and the civil society organization in the success of Karachi Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Plan. He said that under the new system community will be organized at every street, mohallah, neighbourhood, UC and District levels and an elaborate system of rewards on good performance will come in place.

He said while presiding over a meeting regarding community participation and social mobilization in solid waste management system in Karachi, He said that Besides a comprehensive strategy for community awareness at all levels, especially at school children level will be initiated involving different mediums to inform the citizens about their responsibilities towards safe disposal of garbage.

Managing Director said Entire civil society, communities and all governmental agencies will combine and coordinate together to effectively implement the new system of garbage collection and disposal in a safe and environment friendly manner. Mr. Shaikh asked all NGOs and CSOs working in the field of solid waste and environment to come forth and play their crucial role in making their streets and neighbourhoods clean and healthy.
