Chinese investors to put in $10bn in Sindh energy projects

Karachi: Chinese investors would put in billions of dollars in energy projects of Sindh, says Sindh Assembly speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro here Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference at Sindh Assembly, he said the Sindh government has inked four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with two Chinese companies for investment of $10 billion in energy projects including Thar coal, wind power and manufacturing plant for wind turbines.

He said a MoU was signed with 3Goges Corp, for generating 1000 MW electricity through wind mills along the coastal belt covering Thatta and Badin areas in three phases.

Under the second MoU, 4000 MW electricity will be produced through coal resources of Thar, while the third MoU of 300 MW coal energy project will be initiated at Sonda area of Thatta.

Khuhro said that the fourth MoU signed with Ocean Group of China, which already has its presence in Pakistan, for a 150 MW energy production project in interior Sindh.

He said the investment will be made in phases during next 5 to 6 years, adding all the MoUs were signed in Beijing during his recent visit.
