Chinese delegation meets National Transmission and Despatch Company Managing Director, vows to help Pakistan to ease energy crisis

Lahore, September 24, 2013 (PPI-OT): A five member delegation of China Southern Power Grid Company limited (CSG) under supervision of Mr Wang Jiuling visited National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDCL) and met Managing Director Mr Muhammad Zia ur Rehman here at WAPDA House today. It is pertinent to note that said visit of Chinese company is follow up visit of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif held in July this year. Prime Minister had asked China to send their power sector experts to transfer their technical and professional prowess among Pakistani engineers.

MD NTDC Mr Muhammad Zia-ur-Rehman welcomed the Chinese delegation and gave a detailed briefing about operations of NTDC, on-going projects and future expansion plan. In addition, he proposed that NTDC would like to benefit from experiences and technical expertise of CSG in terms of network optimization, introduction to new technologies, improvement in algorithms of control system and capacity building of engineers and technicians. To achieve this objective, he proposed that in addition to training sessions, engineers of two companies may work together on projects, control systems and operation and maintenance (O and M) assignments.

Mr Wang Jiuling vice president of China Southern Power Grid Company limited (CSG) thanked MD NTDC for a warm welcome and hospitality and said that CSG is transmitting and distributing electricity in five provinces of China since 2002. The capacity of CSG into 2013 has risen to 263,000 MW. CSG is comparatively young company in China but has met demand of 230 million populations spread over one million square km.

The demand in CSG is rising at 8% annually. He agreed to proposal of NTDC to have close relationship so as to assist NTDC in achieving its objectives that are difficult as well as complex. He proposed to hold further meetings to start work towards achieving these goals.

General Manager CPPA Mr Tahir Mahmood, GM Services Division Mr Gulzar Ahmad Bhatti, General Manager Projects Mr Mumtaz Ahmad Bhutta, GM GSO Abdul Quddoos Khan and Consultant NPCC Mr Masood Akhtar were also present on this occasion.

Later the Chinese delegation visited Technical Services Group (TSG) NTDCL, where chief engineer Arshad Mirza informed the delegation that TSG is providing grid maintenance, operation and live line training to its staff. The head of Chinese delegation also offered advance training facilities in these areas in CSG Training Centre China.

Chinese delegation also met Secretary WAPDA Syed Khalid Akhlaq Gilani, who briefed the delegation about the hydro power projects being implemented by WAPDA. There is a huge hydropower potential in the country and WAPDA is working on a number of projects in the hydel sector to develop this potential to meet the country’s energy needs. Pakistan looks forward to friendly countries for investment, cooperation in capacity building and technology transfer to boost the share of hydel power production in the energy mix.
