Chief Secretary Sindh presides’ high level meeting of Karachi Circular Railway

karachi, February 17, 2016 (PPI-OT):Chief Secretary Sindh Muhammad Siddique Memon has emphasized upon expediting the KCR (Karachi Circular Railway) restoration process with the particular reference of finalizing the mode, routes and initiating the Reconfirmatory survey, thereof , while presiding a meeting of KUTC (Karachi Urban Transport Company), the institute for restoration and management of KCR, this morning the Chief Secretary also constituted an examination committee headed by the ACS (Additional Chief Secretary) Planning and Development.

The other members of committee included MD, KUTC, Secretary Transport, and Divisional Superintendent Pakistan Railways, Commissioner Karachi, Administrator KMC and representatives of other stake holders. M.D KUTC Shamim Sherazi and Secretary Transport Sindh Muhammad Taha Farooqui, made presentation on behalf of KUTC and Sindh Government respectively.

It may be mentioned that KCR, on finalization will be rail based transit commuter system catering to a greater extent the transport problems, issues and difficulties of Karachi. The road transport including buses will feed the KCR stations located at all major areas of Karachi. People will take benefit by using KCR to reach their desired destination with comfort, safely and shorter travel time. It will reduce air and noise pollution in the city.

The operation of KCR will also be an economic booster for the city, Province of Sindh as well for the nation. The meeting decided to conduct feasibility study of KCR, with the financial and technical aspects. Divisional Superintendent Pakistan Railway @ Karachi, assured to arrange the financial and technical feasibility study in association with KUTC.

The Chief Secretary who is also the chairman of the Board of Directors of KUTC desired to finalize the service rules, asking the members of the BOD KUTC to offer their comments within 15 days on service rule draft. The services of MD, KUTC Shamim Sherazi were appreciated by the CS and other participants as Mr. Sherazi is going to be retired on Superannuation on 25th, instant. Siddique Memon also presented shield to Mr. Sherazi on this occasion.
