Ambassador of South Korea calls on Chairman National Highway Authority

Islamabad, July 20, 2016 (PPI-OT):Ambassador of South Korea based in Islamabad, Dr. Suh Dong-gu call on Chairman National Highway Authority Mr. Shahid Ashraf Tarar at his office here on Wednesday. Matters relating to cooperation in construction sector between the two countries discussed in detail.

Talking to the visiting guest, Chairman NHA Mr. Shahid Ashraf Tarar said, presently NHA is making practical advancement for earlier completion of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project and work on its Western Route is in progress. He recalled, the Korean construction company M/s. Sambu is working on gigantic Lowari Tunnel project. Todate Rs. 17,200 million has been spent on this project and more than 70% work on this 8.5 long tunnel has been completed.

Our endeavour, he said is to ensure its completion by December 2017. Chairman NHA termed Malakand Tunnel as a priority project of NHA which is in the design phase. South Korea has provided financing of 78 million dollar for this project through EXIM Bank of Korea. He said, volume of existing cooperation in construction sphere may further be enhanced.

On this occasion, Dr. Suh Dong-gu expressed interest in Hyderabad- Sukkur motorway and Kalakot-Chitral Road. He said, vast opportunities exist to expand the range of cooperation between the two countries. He said, cooperation in road building projects will further strengthen friendly relationship between the two countries. Chairman NHA Mr. Shahid Ashraf Tarar also presented NHA’s special shield to the visiting guest Dr. Suh Dong-gu.
