All Pakistan Textile Mills Association for free market mechanism to benefit farmers
KARACHI: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) would ensure free market mechanism and provide international price to cotton farmer, which would help the whole sector, said Chairman APTMA Gohar Ejaz.
He said, “It has been the best year ever for our farmers and textile mills because we have had 40 percent year on year growth in textile exports and our farmer has got 100 percent more on his produce, than last year. Not even a single bale of cotton is left on the farm.”
APTMA has clearly informed the government about a three million cotton bales shortage, but we were still exporting cotton so that the farmer should get international prices.
The textile mills buy at international prices and sell produce at global prices in the world market and have been successful.
“We are expecting a record 15 million production this year because of policy of APTMA and did not want to protect downstream textile sector, but wants to protect farmers”.
Organised spinning, weaving and composite mills sector totalling to 396 textile mills with total installed capacity of APTMA member mills amounts to 9.66 million spindles, 61,608 rotors, 10,452 shuttleless/Airjet Looms and 1,897 conventional looms. Its members produce spun, open-end yarn, grey, printed dyed fabrics and bed linen.
