Federal Commerce Minister to hold talks in India from September 24-29

ISLAMABAD: Accompanied by a large delegation, Federal Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim will leave for India on the invitation of the Indian commerce minister to hold crucial trade talk on September 24-29, official sources informed on Wednesday.

Sources informed that due to this crucial visit and review of the proposed list of items to be allowed for import from India through amendments in Import Policy Order, the approval of the Trade Policy 2011-12 is expected to take some three more weeks from now—and announcement of the said policy is expected by October 2011.

Sources added that Prime Minister has already okayed the general recommendations of the Trade Policy Framework for 2011-12 with constitution of a sub-committee for revisiting proposed items to be allowed for import from India. This committee would be sending its recommendations to Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) when it will be approving Trade Policy 2011-12 with possible revision in the proposed list of items to be allowed for import from India.
