30 percent decline in FDI in Jul-May’11

Karachi: The foreign direct investment declined by 30% during 11MFY11 due to lack of investor’s interest in the country owing to adverse law and order situations.

According to Alfalah Securities Limited, the total FDI stood at USD 1.392 bn during 11MFY11 in comparison to USD1.98 bn in the same period last year, depicting a decrease of USD590 mn. On the other hand, Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) depicted an increase of 60% due to progress in the equity market. The stock market received about USD347.1 mn portfolio investment in 11MFY11 against an outflow of USD133.7 mn in the same period.
