Liquinex and Grafoid Team Up to Provide Water Purification Solutions Using the Industry Leading MESOGRAF™Graphene Based Filtration Technology – GPURE

OTTAWA, Sept. 19, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Grafoid Inc. (“GRAFOID”) is pleased announce the strategic partnership with Liquinex, a company specializing in waste water engineering needs, to provide commercial scale water treatment solutions using Grafoid’s innovative MESOGRAF™ graphene based filtration technology.

The increasing demand for clean drinking water, rising scarcity of water resources, rapid industrialization, and increasing construction activities represent real-world factors that necessitate the need for scalable water treatment solutions around the globe.

Compounded by other factors, such as the increased support from government regarding treatment and proper disposal of water, the global market for water treatment solutions is expected to grow at an annual compounded growth rate of 7.4% from 2017 to 20271.

GPURE’s Graphene based filtration products are readily scalable to meet these commercial demands making them ideal for industrial level, niche applications such as the concentration of beverages, treatment of crude oil/water mixtures, biofuel and industrial wastewater treatments where reverse osmosis (RO) is not suitable due to the fouling tendencies when concentrated liquids are purged through RO cartridges.

Conventional filtering materials (e.g. activated carbon, zeolites, flocculants etc.,) have certain limitations of pH-sensitivity, poor efficiency and recoverability to treat a mixture of wide variety of contaminants present in the wastewater. In contrast, MESOGRAF™ graphene, being a 2D-material with high surface-area and functional-group tunability, exhibits outstanding adsorption and recyclability capabilities for a wide variety of contaminants.

Dr. Kiran Manga, Grafoid’s Engineering Manager states: “Our MESOGRAF™ surface engineered graphene derivatives have been successfully deployed to meet the specific requirements (eg. removal of organic dyes from textile and leather industries, phenols and heavy metal ions from ore-processing industry etc.) of our industrial clients. Our GPURE technologies are able to remove up to 99.8% phenol contaminants, 99% dye removal from real-time industrial wastewater samples at neutral pH and room temperature.”

Bashir Ahmad, CEO of Liquinex Group Pte Ltd. confirmed the significance of the strategic partnership with Grafoid as a critical component to a successful roll-out by commenting, “Effective water treatment solutions require strong partnerships and alignment between both public sector, such as IPI Singapore, and private organizations to implement broad based adoption of innovative technologies – such as Grafoid – will be critical.  We are empowered by this partnership with Grafoid and foresee tremendous potential.

Gary Economo, CEO of Grafoid acknowledged the potential global impact of the partnership with Liquinex, observing that  “We know that water is an integral part of many industrial processes and increasing demand for water for industrial uses will result from increasing economic activity. We believe that our GPURE technology can play a critical role in securing the future of water treatment around the globe.”

Iqra University Selects Mediasite for New Smart Classrooms, Revolutionizing Teaching and Learning in Pakistan

Private university deploys Mediasite for lecture capture, distance education and video management across five campuses as part of its massive digital learning project

MADISON, Wis., Sept. 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the trusted global leader for video creation and management solutions, today announces Iqra University selected Mediasite for lecture capture and video management in its new state-of-the-art smart classrooms across five campuses in Pakistan. The selection is part of the university’s $3M digital learning initiative and makes it the first university in the country to deploy a large-scale academic video program.

“We realized that reaching students via the traditional brick and mortar way in Pakistan is difficult, because we have campuses in different cities and it’s not always easy for them to attend classes in-person,” said Hunaid Lakhani, Iqra University Chancellor. “Mediasite allows us to reach the students regardless of their locations and differentiated our university from all the others in Pakistan. Now that we have Mediasite, universities are looking to us as an innovator and want to replicate our Mediasite smart classrooms.”

The private university began using Mediasite in October 2017 and has since converted 20 rooms into “smart classrooms” — automated and integrated learning spaces complete with state-of-the-art AV systems and Mediasite for lecture capture. The university plans to complete 80 more classrooms soon.

All classes are streamed live to students online via Mediasite on any device and available for review on-demand in the university’s learning management system, Moodle. Plus, using Mediasite’s engaging quizzing and polling features, students complete examinations online in real-time. The recorded lectures and presentations are managed in the secure Mediasite Video Platform on-premises.

Iqra University also created a “smart auditorium” — with plans for another —  for university guest speakers and extracurricular activities, making it the go-to presentation space in the country. The university even broadcasts the top three TV news channels in Pakistan from the auditorium.

“Pakistan has a population of nearly 200 million, and 64 million are students in a wide geographical area. I created the smart classroom model to ensure accessible education for all students,” said Muhammad Manshad Satti, CEO and founder of security company IT Butler E-Services and educational technology provider EduServ – both Sonic Foundry partners. “Our aim is to give students unlimited access to digital learning resources in their learning management system so that they can study anywhere, anytime on any device.”

“University leaders in Pakistan are still in the early stages of deploying academic video strategies on their campuses. With its new smart classrooms for lecture capture, Iqra University is among the most ground-breaking institutions in not only Pakistan, but the larger APAC region,” said Gary Weis, CEO, Sonic Foundry. “It is an honor to have been selected by Iqra University as its video solution, and we look forward to helping personalize the learning experiences of each student. With nearly 200 universities and thousands of affiliated colleges enrolling more than 64 million students, there is a tremendous opportunity in Pakistan for Mediasite.”

Trusted by more than 1,700 colleges and universities, Mediasite Video Platform quickly and cost-effectively automates the capture, management, delivery and search of live and on-demand videos for campus events, lecture capture and flipped learning.

ICC opens preliminary probe into Myanmar crimes

The International Criminal Court has opened a preliminary examination into Myanmar’s alleged crimes against its Rohingya Muslim minority.

In a statement, ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said the move could pave the way to a full investigation into Myanmar’s military crackdown that has seen thousands killed and over 700,000 displaced.

United Nations investigators have already declared Myanmar’s army responsible for genocide against the Rohingya Muslim minority.

According to a four hundred and forty-four page probe report released by United Nations, an estimated ten thousand people were killed in the crackdown and that was likely a conservative figure.

The report urges the international community to investigate the military top brass for genocide, including Commander-in-chief Min Aung Hlaing.
