Karachi Commissioner reviews implementation of Water Commission orders

Karachi, September 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): A meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Sualeh Faruqui reviewed the progress of the work being undertaken for the implementation of the directives issued by the Water Commission with regard to the face lifting of the city. It was decided in the meeting that the face lifting work being carried out would be prioritized and main arteries would be improved in first step. It was also decided that patch work will soon begin, tree plantation already initiated would be enhanced , on identified islands would be beatified and the traffic signs which have been defaced would also be replaced with new ones.

He asked the KMC, KDA, all the District Municipal Corporations and Chief Executive Officers of Cantonment Boards and District Council Karachi to provide lists of the names of the roads and officials looking after the uplift work pertaining to them. Particularly the work of cleanliness, removal of debris as well as removal of encroachments creating hurdles in flow of vehicular traffic, ,patch work , beatification if traffic islands , patch work on the identified roads beside other work. They have been asked to submit the details through a filled in proforma sent to them and also to ensure that the work being carried out were visible to the citizens/road users.

Member Task force of the Water Commission Asif Hyder Shah and the Municipal Commissioner KMC Dr Saifur Rehman were also present in the meeting. Commissioner Karachi asked the officials to implement the directives of the Water Commission. He said campaign initiated by the Water Commission for the uplift of the city should be visible and result oriented. He also stressed the need to develop the reporting mechanism by the civic agencies He said reporting mechanism would help civic agencies to develop data required to analyse the necessary records and information required to monitor the daily performance of the agencies.

It was decided in the meeting that all civic agencies would depute focal persons for the task given by the water commission to them for the improvement of the uplift work. Such lists should be submitted to the. He further said that all the civic agencies should work with proactive approach rather than complaint base approach The civic agencies were also directed to take steps to oblige the officials to be responsible and to carry out their responsibilities with coordinated management. He asked to ensure work done should be visible.

He also appreciated the good work at some places done by the agencies specially the work done on Sharae Faysal Commissioner also directed the deputy commissioners to play their role in the campaign to make the city clean and beautify and to carry out effective monitoring the tasks assigned to the civic agencies. He asked the deputy commissioners to pay visit to observe the performance of the officials deputed and submit the reports on their performance every week.

KDA begins operation against illegal occupancy in Gulistan-e-Johar

Islamabad, September 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): On the order of Director General KDA, Mr. Samiuddin Siddiqui, Estate and Enforcement KDA began operation against illegal occupancy in Gulistan-e-Johar Block 4, Plot No, B-16 where occupied property have been evicted and possession handed over to the allotter.

On the special instruction of Director General Samiuddin Siddiqui in the supervision of Director Estate and Enforcement Warial Undhar operation have carried out against land mafia while during operation different illegal plots have evicted and for the protection of that property monitoring system also implemented and all the details of that property have produced to Director General. Director General Mr. Samiuddin Siddiqui said that for the eviction of property of KDA, practical steps have been taken while on violation of law legal action would be taken.

Board of directors meeting of Amreli Steels Limited

Institute of Bankers Pakistan honours President Khushhali Microfinance Bank with Fellowship

Karachi, September 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): Ghalib Nishtar, President of Khushhali Microfinance Bank (KMBL), has been honoured with the ‘Certificate of IBP Fellowship’ by the Institute of Bankers Pakistan (IBP). This certificate is in recognition of his services and contributions towards the development and progress of the banking profession.

By honouring individuals from the banking and finance sector, IBP looks to encourage others to extend their services for the promotion of the local banking sector. The institute has a transparent and impartial evaluation process in place to select the best performers for the certification.

United States Sponsors Training for Drug Treatment Professionals in Pakistan

Karachi, September 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): The United States government has sponsored an 8-day training for Drug Treatment Professionals in Pakistan on Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC). Kathryn Abate, International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Attaché at the United States Consulate General Karachi, Dr. Farrukh Mahmood Ansari of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Pakistan, and Brigadier Noor ul Hassan, the Force Commander of the Regional Directorate of the Pakistan Anti-Narcotics Force in Sindh, participated in the opening ceremony in Karachi.

This training is the first in a series that will span the next year and cover all 9 modules of the UTC. UNODC, with INL funding, arranged this training in Lahore and Karachi that involves, in Karachi, trainers and 28 drug treatment professionals, including 12 women, representing government hospitals and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, and Azad Kashmir.

The United States views capacity building as one of its most important engagements with its Pakistani partners, including the Government of Pakistan and its provinces, multiple NGOs, and international organizations. Initiatives like these training courses will help improve conditions for treating drug abuse disorders in Pakistan, and help those who seek science-based treatment on international standards for their substance use disorder.

The State Department’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Bureau, which has been assisting drug demand reduction programs in Pakistan for more than a decade, works in more than 90 countries to help governments combat crime and corruption, counter drug-related crime, improve police institutions, and promote laws and court systems that are fair and accountable. Slaughter houses to be monitored to curb Congo Virus: Dr Azra Pechuho

Karachi, September 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Health and Population Welfare Department Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has asked Livestock Department Sindh to spray animals coming from Balochistan at border check posts with tick repellent as a preventive measure to avoid Congo Virus infected animals from entering into Sindh. This she said while presiding over a joint meeting of health, livestock, local government departments and other stakeholders here in her office on Tuesday.

Additional Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Usman Chachar, Director General Health Dr Mubeen and representatives of Livestock, KMC and other departments also attended the meeting. She said that only drastic measures could save the people from this lethal disease, adding that she asked to compile data regarding Congo Virus affected patients admitted in all major hospitals on daily basis and to submit it to Surveillance Cell so that a vigilant eye might be kept to counter the situation.

The provincial minister Dr Azra Pechuho also directed to compile data on daily basis regarding 12 infectious diseases and to spread awareness on these diseases was the need of the hour. She suggested Livestock department Sindh to spray in slaughterhouses in the metropolis on regular basis and all the butchers in the city must follow safety measures in order to curb Congo Virus.

She added, ‘ Unless we all stakeholders work on the same page, we will not be able to achieve our target to get a healthy society’. She also directed Dengue Control Program Manager to start anti larvicidal campaign to kill Dengue Larvae as well as smogging activity to reduce mosquito population and in this regard, a comprehensive program should be chalked out. Awareness campaign for the public is also to be launched.
