Commerce Minister meets Ontario’s Minister of International Trade

Islamabad, February 15, 2018 (PPI-OT): Commerce Minister Mr. Pervaiz Malik met with Ontario’s Minister for International Trade, Mr. Michael Chan to discuss trade relations between Pakistan and Ontario province. The Minister briefed the Minister of International Trade on the economic progress that Pakistan has made in recent years as a result of economic reforms undertaken by the government. He also highlighted trade and investment opportunities that are available in Pakistan, says a press release received here today from Ottawa.

The Commerce Minister said that he held very useful meetings with Federal Cabinet Ministers including Minister for International Trade Mr. Francois-Philippe Champagne. He stated that Pakistan is desirous of promoting trade relations with Canada through market access, exchange of business delegations and cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of both the countries. He added that improved security situation in Pakistan is leading to increased FDI inflows.

“Ontario has the largest concentration of Pakistani immigrants and we feel that it can play a vital role in enhancing trade relations”, the Minister added. The Commerce Minister said that Ontario is home to a vibrant work force and dynamic business community, and Pakistan would like to build a secure and stronger trade relations with the Province. Minister Chan appreciated the role played by vibrant Pakistani community in development of Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

He said that the Provincial Government would like to encourage Pakistan businessmen and students to come to the Province, which welcomes foreign investors and international students. Minister Chan informed the visiting Minister that Canada is a trading nation and Ontario being the largest province largely depends on international trade. He added that Canada wants to expand and diversify its trading partners in Asia including Pakistan.

In addition to the manufactured products, he identified education, health and ICT as the potential areas of mutual cooperation. Minister Chan agreed with Minister Malik’s proposal that there is a need to enhance Business-to-Business interaction between the two countries to increase the trade flows. It was felt that frequent exchange of business delegations would help in bringing down trade barriers.

15 million plants have been planted under Green Pakistan Program in its first year: Minister for Climate Change

Islamabad, February 15, 2018 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Climate Change Mushahidullah Khan attended the inauguration of spring plantation 2018 as chief guest organized by Ministry of Climate Change and Capital Development Authority. ‘We are aware of this fact that today this city looks so green due to efforts of many organizations and citizen and Nongovernmental organizations friendly attitude towards trees in past”, Federal Minister for Climate Change. He further added if citizen of other cities also plant trees and protect them, we can be protected from effects of climate change.

We must also realize that we need to protect trees of this city. He also highlighted that only 5% area of Pakistan has forests. The reasons include cutting of trees due to increasing population and climate change. The present government took many initiatives to protect natural forests that include 3.65 million Green Pakistan program has been initiated in whole country. Under this program 15 million trees have been grown in whole country and 85 million more will be planted till 2021. “Ghar Ghar Aik Shajar” is another awareness campaign under which free plants will be distributed from door to door in Islamabad in 10,000 houses.

Almost 100 students from different universities of Islamabad will participate in this program. We have formulated New Forest Policy and First Wildlife Policy of Pakistan is under process of formulation. Currently there is no wildlife policy at federal and provincial level. He also told the audience in last five years under spring plantation 407.3 million plants and Monsoon plantation 216.7 million plants have been planted. The survival rate is 70%. Till 2017 monsoon plantations 105.26 million plants have been grown. He also told that we are trying our level best to support these functions at every level.

In this regard ministry of Climate Change is playing an active role through fire fighting trainings, advisory member in Wildlife Management Board, member zoo advisory and afforestation at Margalla hills. He also said my ministry; Capital Development Authority and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad are also working on capacity building of employees, provision of wireless system and other equipment through corporate social responsibility.

There are some projects for citizen of Islamabad like clean streams projects and plantations in which ministry of climate change will provide technical support. There were many stalls and performances arranged by children of various schools. The event was attended by officers of Ministry of Climate Change, Capital Development authority, Non-Governmental Organizations, children from schools and teachers and media.

ICCI organizes Tenpin Bowling Championship for business community

Islamabad, February 15, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Sports Committee of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has organized a two day Tenpin Bowling Championship to promote sports activities in the members of Chamber and their kids. The Championship would feature men’s singles and team, females singles and doubles, mixed team and singles for kids of the members.

Muhammad Naveed, Senior Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry was the Chief Guest of the opening ceremony. Speaking at the occasion, he called upon the government to give priority focus to promoting sports activities in the country in order to develop a healthy and active society. He said Pakistan was a country of young population and our youth has great scope to excel in every sports. He said government should take measures to develop conducive environments for sports and provide all needed facilities including grounds for promoting sports activities in the country.

He lauded the efforts of Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry Chairman and all members of ICCI Sports Committee for organizing the Tenpin Bowling Championship. He said credit went to Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry, Ejaz Khan National Bowling Champion and Tauseef Zaman Former Senior Vice President ICCI for holding the championship. He hoped that Sports Committee would organize events of other sports to promote sports activities in the local business community.

Nisar Mirza, Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry assured that Chamber would fully cooperate with Sports Committee in its endeavours aimed at promoting the healthy sports activities in the business community. Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry, Chairman, ICCI Sports Committee thanked the business community and their kids for taking active participation in the opening ceremony of Tenpin Bowling Championship.

He said that the Committee was planning to organize many other sports events including matches of cricket, hockey, badminton, table tennis and boxing for the members of Chamber in order to promote the sportsman spirit in the local traders and industrialists. Baser Daud former President ICCI, Ashfaq Hussain Chatha, Muhammad Faheem Khan, Tauseef Zaman, Amin ur Rehman, Ejaz Khan, Zia Chaudhry, Ms. Nasira Ali and others were also present at the occasion.

Chief Justice of Pakistan calls report from Inspector General Prisons, Punjab within three days about Nihaal Hashmi

Board of directors meeting of Millat Tractors Limited

Karachi, Millat Tractors Limitedinformed Pakistan Stock Exchange that board of directors meeting of the company will be held on February 22, 2018 at Lahore. The agenda of the meeting will to consider the Quarterly Accounts for the period ended December 31, 2017.
