Faisalabad Electric Supply Company will stage Save Energy rally in collaboration with Shiblee Group of Colleges and USAID Power Distribution Programme

Faisalabad, February 25, 2013 (PPI-OT): Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) will stage Save Energy rally in collaboration with Shiblee Group of Colleges and USAID Power Distribution Program here on Monday. The rally will start from Commissioner office and its participants march up to Iqbal Stadium.

The hosts of the rally will be Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan Chief Executive Officer (FESCO) and Prof. M. Hanif while Commissioner will participate in it as Chief Guest. Among other important participants include Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture Faisalabad Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan.

Chairman BOD FESCO Nadeem Aftab Sindhu, President Faisalabad Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Zahid Aslam, Director Colleges Rana Munawar Ahmad Khan and CEO Mughal Scanner and Printers Shahid Iqbal. The students of the various colleges will participate in this rally and after parading on city roads they would also take oath to actively participate in the Save Energy Campaign.

Faisalabad Electric Supply Company installing capacitors on tube wells with assistance of United States Agency for International Development

Faisalabad, December 28, 2012 (PPI-OT): Capacitors are being installed on all tube wells in Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) region with the assistance of USAID said Chief Executive Officer FESCO, Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan. He said that FESCO was under taking various projects with the assistance of USAID to minimize technical loses in order to save energy.

He was taking to a high level team of USAID at FESCO Headquarters. He said that there was sufficient room for improvement in the departments of engineering and planning. He hoped that FESCO staff will achieve desired results in these departments with new appliances and technical training provided by under the USAID program.

He also appreciated the USAID assistance to the Distributions Companies (DISCOs) for the up-gradation and improvement of technology with provision of new appliances. Saleem Arif Deputy Chief of Party of USAID also advised the meeting and said that improvement in power sector was the top most priority of US and in the connection it was undertaking a multi dimensional assistance program.

He hoped that in the assistance DISCOs will not only improve their system but would also be able to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the consumers. He said that AMRS meter are being installed on all feeders under Load Management Improvement Project (LMIP) of USAID.

He said that power control center is also being established at FESCO and in the connections capacitors are being installed in the tube well with a view to minimize technical loses. He said that capacitors have already been installed on 233 tube wells which are giving saving of one megawatt.

He said that capacitors would also be provided to be installed on all tube wells of FESCO region under USAID program. He said that work has also been started to replace old redundant and defective motors installed in various private industrial units.

Maximum facilities being given to industrial consumers

Faisalabad, December 26, 2012 (PPI-OT): Consumers are the first and foremost priority of the Faisalabad Electricity supply company (FESCO) and among that maximum facilitation is being doled out to the industrial consumers, Said Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan Chief Executive Officer FESCO.

He was talking to a delegation of the Council of Power Loom Owners Association (CPLOA) at his office here today. He said that industry is the mainstay of the national economy that was not only providing jobs to the millions of youth but also earning precious foreign exchange for the country. He said that FESCO was helping the industrial sector to continue its activities and play its role in the national economy.

He said that there was a visible gap between demand and supply of electricity and FESCO was taking various tangible steps to bridge this gap with proper management and by discouraging the wasteful use of electricity.

He said that on the other hand the government was also working on the construction of the new dams and power houses to add more electricity to the national grid. Continuing, Chief Executive said that Faisalabad was second major industrial city of the country and has employed millions of workers.

He said that FESCO was taking various steps to provide uninterrupted power supply to this sector and directives have also been issued to finalize the load management schedule in consultation with all stake holders.

The meeting agreed in principal for 4 hours load management schedule for power loom industry. Chief Executive assured that as soon as generation situation improved, the additional supplies would be passed on to the industrial sector.

He hoped that industrial consumers would also cooperate with FESCO by discouraging wastage and abuse of electricity by conducting energy audit of their industry. He said that FESCO engineers would provide free of cost services for this audit. Earlier, Waheed Khaliq Ramey Chairman (CPLOA) said that millions of people are earning their bread and butter from power looms and hence unscheduled load shedding for power looms sector should now come to an end.

He said that only 2 hours load management in morning and 2 hours in evening is tolerable which could be easily absorbed by the looms owners. He also thanked the FESCO administration for the formulation of load management schedule in consultation with local industrialists.

He said that the industrial sector could survive with load management but the unscheduled load management is unacceptable and was harmful to the over all economy. He also expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the FESCO administration to end the unscheduled load shedding in Faisalabad.

United States Agency for International Development Power Distribution Chief inaugurates computer centre at Faisalabad Electric Supply Company

Faisalabad, December 17, 2012 (PPI-OT): USAID Power Distribution Program Chief of Party Craig VanDevelde inaugurated a computer center at FESCO as part of the U.S. Government efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s energy sector and end energy shortages. “Supporting the Government of Pakistan’s efforts to improve the performance of the energy sector is one of our top assistance priorities,” said Craig VanDevelde.

This computer center will modernize the Planning and Engineering (P and E) sectors of the DISCOs, improving energy distribution across Pakistan. Mr. Craig also said, “I am confident that with this effort, FESCO will now be able to better supply electricity to consumers in Faisalabad.”

USAID has established similar computer centers at the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) and at the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO). USAID also provides training for engineers and technicians from all nine DISCOs and is introducing international best practices for public utility management.

The USAID Power Distribution Program is a four and a half year, USAID-funded program aimed at working jointly with government-owned DISCOs in Pakistan to improve their performance in terms of a reduction in losses, and improvement in both revenues and customer services, to bring them to the level of well-run utilities in other progressive countries. Through this program, the United States Government provides assistance and support to the Government of Pakistan in its efforts to reform the power sector to end the current energy crisis.

Faisalabad Electric Supply Company has taken steps in line with emergency imposed on Power Sector for 6 months

Faisalabad, November 06, 2012 (PPI-OT): Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has making various steps in line with the emergency imposed on Power Sector for next 6 months, in this connection a meeting of circles officer (First, Second, Sargodha and Jhang) was held at FESCO Headquarters with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the chair. He said that FESCO has been making best efforts to improve its performance in all fields including distribution of electricity and recovery of dues.

He issued orders to keep open FESCO Customer Services Centers (CSC) 6 days in a week instead of 5 days. Similarly, the Complaint Centers of Sub Divisional level would also remain available to the public seven days in a week and round the clock.

He further said that a proposal was under active consideration to cut down the weekly offs from 2 to 1 day for Meter Readers and Distribution Staff at Sub Divisional level in order to improve distribution of bills, recovery of dues and speed up action against the defaulters. However, implementation on this proposal will start after the order from the Ministry of Water and Power. He also directed Superintending Engineers (SE) and Deputy Commercial Managers (DCM) to expedite their efforts to ensure maximum recoveries from the defaulters.

They should also prepare themselves to facilitate consumers in addition to making immediate recoveries and controlling line loses. He said that all officers and officials should make pains taking efforts after promulgation of emergency in power sector. However he assured acknowledgement and rewards to the efficient and responsible employees but at the same time inefficient and lethargic employees would be kicked off the company.

He said that a special campaign would be launched to promote the concept to save energy at consumer level. He requested the consumers to cooperate with FESCO by discouraging wasteful use of electricity in addition to making the payments of their bill in time.

The cooperation will help FESCO to supply uninterrupted power supply to its consumer. The meeting was also attended by Chief Commercial Officer Khurshid Alam, Chief Engineer Technical Sh. Akhtar Hussain, Chief Engineer Operation Tariq Mehmood, Additional Director General (IS) Aziz Ahmed and Superintending Engineer of four circle of FESCO.
