Cotton market: Recent weakness in low grade prices facilitates revival in export sales to certain traditional markets

Karachi, April 16, 2013 (PPI-OT): Recent weakness in low grade prices has facilitated a revival in export sales to certain traditional markets. The business arranged has included a few hundred tonnes of Type ALAKA, low Micronaire lots, at between 68.00 and 70.00 US cents per lb. landed Taiwan.

The local market, by contrast, has remained subdued. Mill buyers appear intent on watching price developments, while those holding better quality stocks remain in no hurry to entertain business. Stable conditions prevails in local cotton market

Karachi, April 12, 2013 (PPI-OT): Stable conditions have prevailed in the local cotton market. Further to yesterday’s correction in New York cotton futures, cotton prices have been maintained at current levels. Some gap filling buying has also provided support. Ginners have generally remained tight sellers, while mills have exercised a lacklustre buying approach.

Turnover has remained small. Retail business for better grade lots has been reported today between Rs. 6500 and Rs. 6,850 per maund (around 80.65/85.00 us cents per Ib), ex-gin. Raw cotton export registrations and shipments According to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, raw cotton export registrations from August 1 to April 7 totalled 501,011 bales (including 16,659 bales of 2011/12 crop), and shipments totalled 368,756(65,201).

Subdued conditions prevail in local raw cotton market

Karachi, April 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): Subdued conditions have today prevailed in the local raw cotton market. The continuous drop in futures along with a lack of active buying from domestic mills has contributed to a negative mood, as has the rather lacklustre yarn demand reported lately by most spinners.

The recent severe power shortages in Punjab have attracted vociferous criticism from the textile industry. However most of the better quality raw cotton stocks remain in strong hands, with holders of such stocks confident that the paucity of current crop remnants will ensure higher prices during the remainder of the season. Retail business in premium lots has been reported today between Rs. 6500/6850 per maund (about 80.50/84.75 US cents per Ib), ex-gin. Import activity ha5 remained negligible over the last few days.

Bearish conditions prevails in cotton market

Karachi, April 10, 2013 (PPI-OT): Bearish conditions have prevailed in the domestic cotton market. The recent falls in New York cotton futures, and a downward correction in local yarn prices have led to some negative sentiment among buyers.

The worsening power load shedding problems in Punjab have also been a factor in mills’ resistance to higher cotton prices. Many ginners have held on to stocks for the prospect of better forward prices, but some weakness has been witnessed from ginners wanting to dispose of inventory.

Turnover has been limited. Many buyers have opted to wait-and-see for a clearer price direction. Business in better lots been reported at between Rs. 6,500 and Rs. 6,850 per maund (roughly 80.50/84.90 US cents per Ib), ac-gin. Average quality cotton has attracted around Rs. 5,900 to Rs. 6,400 per maund.
