Traders call for action against corrupt officers of Federal Board of Revenue

Islamabad, April 24, 2014 (PPI-OT): Traders of federal capital have called for stern action against the corrupt officers of FBR as their corrupt approach has disturbed the peace of mind of business community. Musharaf Janjua, President, Traders Welfare Association of Auto Market, I-10/3, Islamabad has appealed to the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to rid the traders of the coercive tactics of FBR corrupt officers who are conducting raids on shops and creating lot of harassment in businessmen.

He said that FBR Intelligence Department have deputed its officers to visit various markets who either sit at shops counters which is very insulting to the shopkeepers or confiscate record and then coerce the traders under Sales Tax law to sign on a document for tax payment. He alleged that instead of collecting tax for the government, they siphon away half of the amount due to their corrupt practices.

He said PML (N) was considered a business friendly government, but some black sheep in FBR are taking measures to create tension between the government and the business community.

Musharaf Janjua said the traders have now decided that if any raid was conducted in markets or observers deployed on shops, they will strongly resist such moves. He also called of transfer of FBR Intelligence department officers including Director General Ejaz Shah, Director Tanvir Malik and Additional Director Faridoon Sheikh, otherwise, traders would launch strong protests.
