Government working to ensure consumers rights, similar to the most advanced countries: Pir Bakhsh Jamali

Karachi: Pakistani consumers can be assured that Government is working to ensure their rights, similar to the most advanced countries this was stated by Pir Bakhsh Jamali Director General Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority PSQCA in the Seminar organized by The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) and Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).

Pir Bakhsh Jamali Director General PSQCA’s speech was read by Shehzad Afzal Deputy Director General PSQCA in the Seminar. Pir Bakhsh Jamali in his Statement assured that PSQCA as National Standards body is committed to play its multi dimensional role of enhancing the competitiveness of local industry and trade for the optimum benefits of the business group entrepreneurs, consumers and the country as a hole.

The PSQCA is committed to play its vital role of enhancing the competitiveness of industry and trade for the benefits of the business group entrepreneurs and consumers. Mr. Pir Bakhsh Jamali pledges his full support to The Consumers Eye Pakistan for their efforts regarding consumer Awareness said Shehzad Afzal Deputy Director General PSQCA in the Seminar on behalf of Pir Bakhsh Jamali Director General Pakistan PSQCA.

Speaking as chief Guest Mr. M. A. Jabbar Senior Member Board of Director PSQCA and Ex. President Site Association said that the consumers have the right to refuse substandard products in Pakistan; we are still awaiting the birth of the institution competent to provide relief to the consumers. There is a need for regulation on part of the government and activism on the part of civil society to ensure protection of consumer rights”, he added.

Earlier in his key note welcome Address M. Umar Ghauri Chairman TCEP informed the audience that In Pakistan, consumer laws are a provincial matter and there are only three consumer protection ordinances in Islamabad, Balochistan and Punjab. Sindh is still without a consumer protection law and consumer courts. He lauded the Services of newly appointed DG. PSQCA Mr. Pir Bakhsh Jamali for the betterment of consumers. He assured his full support to PSQCA.

The seminar session was also addressed by Khalid Tawab of FPCCI, Rehmatullah Memon Media Adviser PSQCA and Faheem Siddiqui General Secretary Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ). Representative from corporate sector including Mr. Abraruddin of Naheed Superstore, and Kashif Tasleem of Xenith Traders also spoke about the consumer laws, Foods safety and Intellectual Property Rights in Pakistan.

After Seminar Mr. Khalid Tawab Guest of Honour, Ex. Vice President FPCCI gave Shields to Faheem Siddiqui, Gen. Secretary KUJ, Rehmatullah Memon Media Adviser PSQCA and Madam Nanki Daulat Ram of TCEP. He also distributed mementos and Certificates among participant’s speakers and volunteers of The Consumers Eye Pakistan. Shields were also presented to corporate representatives.

A large number of participants attended the event including officials of PSQCA, Personalities from corporate sector, social workers, members of NGO’s, personalities from civil society and Media personals. Before vote of thanks a condolence reference was also presented amid Fateha Khwani in honour of deceased PSQCA officer Mr. Abdul Hai Tunnio by Madam Nanki Daulat Ram Adviser PSQCA.
