Sixteen members trade delegation from Xinjiang province visit Trade Development Authority of Pakistan

Karachi, December 21, 2016 (PPI-OT):A sixteen members trade delegation from Xinjiang province led by Deputy Director General, Department of Commerce visited TDAP on 21st December 2016.The delegation comprised of delegates from following leading textiles companies of Xinjiang.

The objective of visit of this delegation is to develop linkages between textile companies of Xinjiang Province with Pakistan Companies who are dealing in textiles, to find out import partners and to have joint ventures. Secretary TDAP welcomed the delegates and briefed them about the working of TDAP. During the meeting she stated that after the CEPEC project the importance of linkages between Pakistan and northern part of China will create lot of business opportunities in trade.

The leader of delegation informed that Xinjiang Province is already trading with traders of northern part of Pakistan and the volume of trade is US$310 Million. He stated that this is an exploratory delegation and will enhance the trade between Xinjiang Province and Pakistan and their companies had very good B2B meetings with Pakistani companies and they are hopeful that they will sign agreement with Pakistani companies for investment and joint ventures besides imports and exports.

Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited announces profit of Rs. 7.51 billion

Lahore, October 27, 2016 (PPI-OT):Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (FFC) announced Nine-Month Financial results for 2016 with levy of super tax translated into net earnings of Rs. 7.51 billion for the period with an EPS of Rs. 5.90. A record production of 1,876 thousand tones attributable to restored natural gas quota and consistent efforts to enhance production efficiencies.

The Company also achieved 13.7 million man-hours of safe operations without lost work injury. Sales revenue and dividend income witnessed decline due to the ongoing unprecedented adverse market conditions which coupled with levy of super tax translated into net earnings of Rs. 7.51 billion for the period with an EPS of Rs. 5.90.

The prevailing adverse market conditions have shown signs of stability during the quarter, however, due to lower off-take during the first half of the year, the industry urea sales for the period witnessed a decline of 12%. Concerted efforts by Company resulted in urea offtake of 1,597 thousand tones, lower by only 6% compared to last year.

Company’s Annual Report – 2015 has been declared overall winner in the Best Corporate Report Awards competition by joint committee of the ICAP and ICMAP, besides being awarded the first place in the Chemicals Sector. The Company’s Sustainability Report – 2015 has also been awarded first prize in the relevant category. Pakistan Stock Exchange acknowledged outstanding financial and management performance of the Company by adjudging it overall winner of ‘PSX Top 25 companies’ for sixth consecutive year.

Better returns to farmers from major crops due to slightly improved commodity prices and lower input costs (subsidized fertilizer) will affect the market positively in upcoming months. Further, persistent decline in international urea prices and poor farm economics continue to pose pricing constraints to the Company.

Chief Executive of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan visits Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mauritius on 22nd October

Karachi, October 25, 2016 (PPI-OT):The Chief Executive of the TDAP, Mr. S.M Muneer visited the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mauritius on the 22nd of October 2016. The CE TDAP was accompanied by the Director General (Americas and Asia Division) Rafeo Bashir Shah, Acting Charge’ D’Affairesi.a for Mauritius Mr. K.K Ahsan Wagan, the acting Trade Attache’ Mr. Faisal Idris as well as the high powered business delegation from Pakistan.

Welcoming the delegation, the President of the ICC and I Mr. Ghoolam Mohammad stated that the main focus of the high powered business delegation from Pakistan, should be Networking, Networking and Networking only. He stated that there is a general acceptance as well as recognition of the fact that there is a very highly under-utilized potential for enhancing bilateral trade between the two brotherly countries. The manifestation of the love and affection of the ICC and I towards Pakistan can be gauged by the fact that every year, on the Pakistan day celebrations, the ICC and I hosts the flag of Pakistan and join the celebrations with the Pakistan High Commission in Mauritius.

It was briefed that the commercial relationship between Pakistan and Mauritius have existed over decades and Pakistan can offer a lot of products for the Secondary and Tertiary markets for COMESA and SADEC. Therefore the Pakistani and Mauritian companies and entrepreneurs need to work together for attracting FDI, Joint ventures and setting up of stronger business and commercial relationships in both countries. The visit of the high powered business delegation from Pakistan, it was stated, shows a high level of commitment by the Government of Pakistan to strengthen the business relationship between the two countries.

Thanking the ICC and I, the CE TDAP gave a briefing to the participants of the B2B sessions and the ICC and I members and office bearers, about the various meetings with the public and private sector that have been held so far by the delegation from Pakistan. The CE then briefed the participants about the 140 plus exhibitions in diverse markets and sectors that the TDAP participates each year. It was also briefed that the current high powered business delegation to Mauritius is a result of the efforts taken by Her Excellency the President of Mauritius during her last visit to Pakistan and based on the feedback of the delegation, the TDAP would be considering Single Country Exhibitions in Mauritius in the near future.

Giving the participants of the meeting an overall brief on Pakistan’s economy, the CE TDAP requested the Mauritian companies to come over and invest in Pakistan directly or through Joint Ventures. In the end the CE TDAP thanked the ICC and O for the hospitality that has been shown towards the delegation.

Thereafter a presentation was shown to the participants regarding the investment opportunities in Mauritius was given by Mr. Muniruddeen Lallmahamood, CEO of M/s Century Banking Corporation. In the end, the Acting Charge’ D’Affairesi.a for Mauritius, Mr. K.K Ahsan Wagan also expressed his gratitude to the ICC and I as well as the Government of Mauritius for welcoming the delegation and stressed the need to strengthen the bilateral trade as well as commercial relationship between the private sectors of the two countries. Thereafter, an exchange of souvenirs was done by both sides and the meeting ended with a note of thanks to the CE TDAP as well as the ICC and I for hosting a well-planned B2B session for the visiting Pakistani delegation.

S.M. Muneer alongwith TDAP delegation meet President Mauritius

Karachi, October 24, 2016 (PPI-OT):The Chief Executive TDAP, Mr. S. M. Muneer met the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Dr. Ameenah Gurib Fakim at the State House on the 21st of October 2016 at 1645h. The CE TDAP was accompanied by the Director General (Americas and Asia Div.) Syed Rafeo Bashir Shah, Ms. Seema Mughal, Chancellor of Greenwich University, Mr. Faisal Idris Acting Charge D’Affaire of the Pakistan High Commission at Mauritius, Mr and Mrs. Hanif Gohar, Mr. Shakoor Khatri, Mr. Irfan Sarwana, Sardar Yasin Malik and Mr. Iqbal Ansari who were members of the high powered business delegation that accompanied the CE of the TDAP to Mauritius.

Welcoming the CE of the TDAP as well as the officials and businesspersons accompanying the CE TDAP, the President of Mauritius stated that there exists a tremendous potential of strengthening the commercial and economic relationship between the two brotherly countries, for which both countries need to work together and make efforts to maximize the benefits of joint commercial and trade relationships.

The President said that Pakistan has very good quality products and Mauritius has a very large coverage of preferential trading arrangements with countries like the US, E.U and the COMESA and SADEC regions. Both countries need to build up a strong and progressive partnership so that Pakistan can take benefit of the Mauritius trading regime with South and Central Africa as well as the world, and Mauritius can take economic advantages that can accrue to it through the CPEC. The President also desired that Pakistan and Mauritius can collaborate jointly by establishing a School of Fashion design in Mauritius and by holding gradually product specific exhibitions which can gradually lead to Pakistan’s single country exhibition.

Thanking the President of the Republic of Mauritius, the CE TDAP reiterated the sentiments expressed by the President of Mauritius and invited her to visit Pakistan again. The CE spoke highly about the commercial potential that Mauritius offers to Pakistan and vice versa. He stated that the high powered businessmen delegation that is visiting Mauritius, has had very successful B2B meetings that were planned and catered to by the BOI of Mauritius. He also briefed the President about the various meetings that have been held with the various Ministers and Governmental departments of Mauritius and their positive outcomes.

The CE TDAP also expressed the desire of the TDAP of holding these exhibitions in Mauritius and enquired about the available Exhibition Centres in which these can be held. The office of the President of Mauritius informed that the TDAP, if it expresses its desire to hold such Single Country Exhibitions or even product specific exhibitions, then the same can be planned in one of the many available convention centres in Port Louis. It was stated that it would depend upon the TDAP’s budgetary requirements as well in terms of the cost of the venue per sq. feet.

Thanking the President of Mauritius, the CE reiterated the need to further build up and strengthen the economic relationship between the two countries and expressed gratitude for the support that has been extended by the President of Mauritius as well as her office and the Government of Mauritius. The CE invited the President to visit Pakistan again. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the President by the CE TDAP who also presented a handmade carpet to the President of Mauritius as a token of appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the Government of Pakistan.

Trade Development Authority of Pakistan organizes participation in SIAL Food Fair 2016

Karachi, October 19, 2016 (PPI-OT):TDAP organized participation in SIAL Food Fair 2016. This is largest ever participation in the fair and 26 leading companies are participating under the parentage of TDAP. Event was inaugurated on 16 October would end on 20 October, 2016.The companies showcasing Rice and processes food product in it. Most of leading names of rice exporters of Pakistan are in Pakistan Pavilion.

The H.E Moin u Haque, ambassador of Pakistan visited Pakistan pavilion on 1st day of Exhibition He met every company individually at their stall and seek briefing about the event and facilitation. He appreciates the efforts of TDAP and commercial section. The business community showed great interest in Pakistani Rice.

Single Country Exhibition at Sri Lanka in January, 2017

Karachi, September 06, 2016 (PPI-OT):After the successful response of the Single Country Exhibition at Colombo, Sri Lanka in January, 2016, TDAP is organizing another Single Country Exhibition at Colombo, Sri Lanka in January, 2017. The event will be organized at the BMICH Exhibition Centre from 13th to 15th January, 2017.

The recent exhibition at Sri Lanka was a huge success as all companies had received tremendous response of Sri Lankan buyers and visitors. Many companies have received orders from Sri Lankan buyers and the Furniture, Engineering and Pharmaceutical sectors are still negotiating hopefully successful deals.

General Fan Company (GFC) has already sent its first consignment to Sri Lanka after successful deals which were materialized as a result of the exhibition. Pharmaceutical companies have also started the process of registration with Sri Lankan authorities as TDAP had introduced their quality products during the exhibition.

The Single Country Exhibition for 2017 is being organized under the patronage and support of Government of Sri Lanka. It is expected that large number of people will visit the event. Major components of Single Country Exhibition will be exhibition display and Business to Business meetings.

Renowned companies from Textile, Agriculture, Engineering, Marble and Granite, Handicrafts, Garments and Accessories, and from the Jewellery sector will participate in the event. The exhibition will be a true showcase of quality brands from Pakistan with collective presence of top Pakistani brands in the event.

It is pertinent to mention that Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is operational from June 12, 2005. Under the Free Trade Agreement, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have agreed to offer preferential market access to each other’s’ exports by way of granting tariff concessions.
