JazzCash partners with Tranglo to Enable International Money Transfer

Islamabad, October 18, 2016 (PPI-OT):JazzCash has announced a partnership with Tranglo, a global cross-border digital remittance hub. Following the collaboration, residents of the United Kingdom can send remittances for cash collection or deposit directly to JazzCash mobile accounts.

Through the partnership, Tranglo’s global network of money service / remittance providers can now offer international money transfer service to JazzCash users. LycaRemit becomes the launch partner to enable mobile / electronic remittances from the UK to JazzCash mobile accounts and cash collection centres as well. This move ensures that the country’s unbanked segment will have an access to a bank account through their mobiles.

Speaking about the partnership, Aniqa Afzal Sandhu, VP – Digital and Mobile Financial Services, Mobilink, stated: “We are excited to embark on the next phase of our journey to digitalize our customers’ financial needs in a convenient and reliable manner by joining hands with Tranglo. This collaboration will allow people living in the UK to directly transfer remittances to their loved ones, who may be unable to access a bank in their area. Through such partnerships, we look forward to further empowering our rapidly increasing Mobile Account customers with access to retail and online payments.”

By utilizing this initiative, customers receiving international remittances in JazzCash Mobile Accounts can cash-out at more than 65,000 retailers and 10,000 automated teller machines (ATMs) across the country. The partnership also enables Malaysia-based Max Money, Unique Change and Incentive Remit to transfer money transfer to JazzCash mobile accounts. Going forward, Tranglo will enable more partners in the United Kingdom, Malaysia and make the JazzCash service available in Singapore, Spain and the Gulf countries in 2017.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited Group Net Profit increased by 42%

Islamabad, October 14, 2016 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) bounced back to record a tremendous profit growth of 42 percent by the end of third quarter of 2016 as compared to same duration last year. Financial results for the nine months ended September 30, 2016 were announced during a Board of Directors meeting held in Islamabad on October 13, 2016.

The improvement in financial numbers were mainly because of the profit the group made during third quarter where it succeeded to book the bottomline of Rs 876 million as against loss it made in the same quarter of last year which had stood at Rs 371 million.

The Group revenue stood at Rs. 88.8 billion and with effective cost optimization measures, the operating expenses of the Group were reduced by 3% resulting into a net profit of Rs. 3.9 billion. PTCL’s revenue for the period was Rs. 54.3 billion with growth in DSL broadband revenue. The Company’s operating expenses during the period were reduced by 6% resulting into the net profit of Rs. 7.6 billion.

Telecom analysts said that improvement in profitability of the Group was seen due to performance of its subsidiary, Ufone which sustained its earning in the highly competitive market. On the other hand, the balance sheet showed the effective cost saving of the operations on different accounts which translated into profitability of the Group.

For instance, group expenses for administration, selling and marketing stood at Rs 18.3 billion so far in 2016 as compared to Rs 19.8 billion recorded in the same period of last year. The finance cost greatly reduced to Rs 2.74 billion in three quarters of 2016 which stood at Rs 4.23 billion in the three quarters of 2015. The overall group performance reflected the change of strategy by the new management which assumed the office earlier in 2016.

The effective operational management and growth in earnings through services may bode well to the company’s financial health, however, for a sustained performance, as a company as well as a group, PTCL will have to innovate itself in terms of services and will have to introduce new revenue streams in the future.

Zong to add 1,000 additional 4G sites in next three months

Islamabad, October 03, 2016 (PPI-OT):Zong will add an additional 1,000 4G sites across Pakistan in remaining three months of 2016, said a press statement issued by the company moments ago. Zong said that it had a target of rolling out 5,000 4G sites by end 2016, however, the company achieved their 2016 4G rollout goals three months ahead of schedule, showing an outstanding execution of their 4G roll out site plan.

Now, due to early achievement of 2016 targets, China Mobile Communication Corporation — the parent group of CMPak — has agreed to induct more capital for another 1,000 4G sites during next three months. The addition of 1,000 4G sites will take the overall tally of Zong’s 4G sites to around 6,000 by the end of this year, making it the largest, widest and fastest in terms of 4G coverage.

To facilitate company’s ambitious expansion plans, Zong’s been given a go-ahead for additional investment. Through this, the total 4G investment of Zong in Pakistan is going to cross USD 300 Million by the end of this year. It is to be noted that Pakistan’s fastest growing 4G network recently expanded its 4G coverage to over 100 cities nationwide and was also designated by PTA as the No.1 operator in voice and data services.

This expansion plan is a strong indicator of Zong’s long-term commitment to the local telecommunication market. The rollout will greatly enhance Zong’s 4G coverage and quality of data user experience, reflecting organization’s aspiration to transform the digital lives of Pakistanis through its high speed data services.

Mobilink tops 10 million 3G users

Islamabad, August 30, 2016 (PPI-OT):Mobilink has surpassed another milestone after announcing that it now serves more than 10 million 3G subscribers. In addition, Mobilink has also become the first Telco to have 20 million Data subscribers (both on 2G and 3G) throughout Pakistan.

In the month of July 2016, Mobilink managed to add a total of 0.6 million 3G subscribers to its initial tally of 9.5 million.
